The establishment of complete forest cover, through artificial means, on an area with poorly distributed natural regeneration and un-stocked areas.
Weeding
A treatment to free selected planted or natural trees from competition of surrounding or overtopping trees, and to promote the trees of preferred species and quality.
Pre Commercial Thinning
The spacing of immature stands to encourage increased growth rates in the best quality trees. The slash and debris remaining from such an operation provides valuable cover and browse for a number of wildlife species, as well as contributes to soil development.
Pruning
A treatment to increase the quality and value of selected trees by removing the lower limbs. This promotes the development of the tree’s sawlog potential, as well as the upward growth of the tree rather than the growth of lower branches.
